March and looking forward...
3/11/2026

Lately I have been helping make ceramic wedding flower arrangements. We have had several wonderful creative sessions with 4 or 5 people making flowers out of white stoneware which I have then attached to rounded bases to show them off to best effect. We have experimented with roses, convolvulus, ivy berries, leaves and some completely imaginary shapes. They have been finished with white slip and white matt glaze. i am looking forward to the next session in which will investigate name places and table numbers. I feel honoured to be involved in this lovely project.
At the end of February, I visited the Victoria and Albert museum’s ceramic collection. There was so much to admire but I have come away inspired to try making some slipware serving dishes. I have fitted out the slab rolling table with an additional insert so that I can roll slabs of the thickness I want and I hope soon to be creating some pieces with marbled or combed effects. I have attached a photo here of some surface detail in my first dish. Here it is unfired.
Markets are starting again and I find myself signing up to a few events, the first of which is this Friday 13th March at Jackson Square, Bishop’s Stortford 10-2pm. I will have spring vases, tulipierres, jugs, bowls and planters for sale.
Please come along and have a look!
